Internships at Serve IT
The clinic is a joint program between the School of Informatics & Computing, the School of Public & Environmental Affairs, the Kelley School of Business, and other University and community organizations and provides real-world, team-based learning experiences for students, while at the same time helping local organizations that work for social good.
Teach IT is a team inside Serve IT that focuses specifically on providing technical programming and education opportunities for other IU students and local youth in conjunction with organizations like the Boys and Girls Club, Girls Inc, and the Monroe County Public Library.
For the Serve IT program, students with a background in nonprofit management, technology, and business are preferred. For Teach IT, students with an interest in sharing their technology skills with other students, local youth, and area adults are desired. All student levels, both undergrad and graduate, will receive equal consideration for both programs.
Interns will be placed on teams which will assist nonprofit and public good organizations with the creation of an IT strategic plan, then help that organization work through that plan. Teams will provide services such as IT consulting, website and database development, technical support, graphic design, and training. Interns will have access to resources within the clinic space at Informatics West 120 and can receive 1-3 credit hours of SPEA V381/V585, Info I391, or other appropriate internship credit.
This internship is an excellent opportunity for IU students to use their skills to directly help organizations that provide valuable services to the community while developing real-world experience. Past clients for the clinic include the Boys and Girls Club, Middle Way House, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Area 10 Agency on Aging, Sycamore Land Trust, Bloomington Playwrights Project, and many others.
We are looking for internship applicants with skills and interest in:
- Project Management
- Web Development
- Technology Education
