Serve IT has been one of the greatest opportunities that I have gotten involved with here at IU. My experience with the clinic has been phenomenal with the time and experience that I can give to the clinic and client. Every Tuesday, I spend two hours at the client site giving them the technical support that they may need. Earlier this semester, I set up a wireless router for the clients in the shelter for Middle Way House. I participated in client-facing meetings that have allowed me to interact with the client at a personal level. These meetings were conducted to clearly understand what they wanted from Serve IT and help them understand what Serve IT could do for them. The hardest thing for me was meeting deadlines on time. Among my academics and Serve IT, I am heavily involved in SoIC.
My team and I have been working with Middle Way House Incorporation to create a client intake database. We began the semester with analyzing the forms that they use to intake client information. We recognized a lot of data duplication and were able to consolidate the data. We also created an Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD), with all of the data that we analyzed from the forms. The ERD was useful to help us draw out what would be used for the schema. We then took the ERD and translated that into a schema that would helps my team and I construct the tables in the database.
