Ashley Hammel

MCCSC Special Ed Team Lead
My name is Ashley Hammel and I am a Senior at IU from the Chicagoland area. I am an Informatics major with a cognate in the Business and minors in Security and Economics. Outside of school, I love to do yoga, read, cook, and travel. Last year I studied abroad in London and traveled throughout Europe for 4 months!

This is my fifth semester in Serve IT and I can honestly say that joining Serve IT has been one of the best decisions I made since coming to IU. This organization has provided me with real world experiences that not only prepared me for my first summer internship, but has allowed me to expand my knowledge and skills in ways I would not have been able to in class. Last semester I was the Team Lead for the Community Justice and Mediation Center team! It was a great experience leading fellow students to create a new website for this organization.

This semester I am the Team Lead for MCCSC Special Ed, and we are creating a new web-based scheduling system for the district for their Special Ed students. This project will utilize new technologies that I have used in the past, which will be a fun challenge!

Raven Hedden

MCCSC Special Ed Intern

My name is Raven Hedden, I am a junior at Indiana University, an informatics major and a business minor. I am a University Services Technology Services (UITS) technology consultant, Information Infrastructure I (I210) undergraduate instructor, member of the Informatics Computing and Consulting Association and of course a Serve IT intern. I am extremely interested in the career fields of IT and Business Consulting and am passionate about applying technology to make a positive impact on our society.

This passion is largely what drove me to become a Serve IT intern. This semester is my third semester with IU Serve IT Non-Profit Clinic and I am very excited to be creating a new scheduling tool for the Monroe Country Community School Corporation (MCCSC). While doing so I hope to gain technical skills, develop as a professional and meet new people who share my passion for technology and its capacity to change the world.

Jimmy Kacius

MCCSC Special Ed Intern
Hey! My name is Jimmy and I’m a sophomore majoring in Informatics. I grew up on the north side of Indianapolis where I stayed until moving to Bloomington to attend the lovely Indiana University. All my life I’ve had a passion for technology; my toys as a child consisted of extension cords, alarm clocks, and christmas lights that I would switch on and off for hours in sheer fascination. In addition to tech, I love running, hiking, camping, and taking midday naps.

I’m really excited to be on the MCCSC Special Ed team this semester. I know I’ll have lots of opportunities to improve my technical skills as I work with a great team of people!

Renee Bialas

My name is Renee Bialas and I am a sophomore studying Computer Science with a specialization in Intelligent Systems. I also have minors in Informatics and Spanish. This is my third semester with Serve IT. In the past I have worked with the Teach IT and Development and Training teams. This semester I am very excited to work with the MCCSC Special Ed team on our project! I get to work with some amazing peers and learn a lot from them and this project.

I like to travel and hike. An ideal vacation would be one where I get to do both. Next year I plan to study abroad in Europe and this summer I will be in California. I enjoy sports, especially the Cubs and Blackhawks.  I like to teach children technology and had a wonderful time doing so last summer as a counselor at the SoIC Computer Science Camp. I am also a member of Indiana University Dance Marathon.

I am looking forward to this next semester and many more with Serve IT.
