Rachel Berry

MCSWCD Team Lead
Hello!  My name is Rachel Berry. I am a senior from West Lafayette, Indiana. I am studying informatics with a cognate in journalism and minors in human-centered computing and information technology. My focus is in web and application development, specifically on the front end. I like working on responsive web projects and learning new platforms and libraries. I am currently focused on learning MEAN stack.

This is my fourth semester in Serve IT. Previously, I worked on the design team, where I worked on mockups for multiple external teams, and the Habitat for Humanity team, where I helped develop a custom WordPress site. This spring, I am the team lead for MCSWCD. This is the same position I held last fall. This semester, we will be continuing to develop a web application that connects consumers to farmers who are selling the crops they produce. My focus this semester is making sure our application is fully responsive and completely secure. I am excited to learn more about web security and responsive development through this project.

Gary Bean

Hello, my name is Gary Bean, I’m from Indianapolis, Indiana. Currently a senior majoring in Informatics and pursuing a minor in Business at Indiana University.  Some of my interests include guitar, music, golf, and hiking with my dog. This is my fourth semester with the Serve IT clinic.

I applied for Serve IT because I wanted to give back to the community and I like how the clinic is using technology to do that. My goal for this semester is to build on my skills I already have, and learn new technologies that can used to help businesses and organizations. For the spring semester, I’m a capstone student on the Monroe County Soil and Water Conservation District team. We are developing a map based application that will connect farmers to consumers in Monroe County.

During my off time I love rooting for the Hoosiers during football and basketball season. I also enjoy playing sports for fun, especially golf. I am very excited for this semester with Serve IT and I hope to be a great asset for the team.

My name is Alex Flinchum, and I’m a sophomore majoring in Informatics and minoring in Computer Science. I’m from Noblesville, Indiana, and I came to IU because the university offered an impressive Informatics program. I’m in the Hutton Honors College and have been a Founders scholar for two years now. I enjoy learning new programming languages and have had experience with many different ones, including HTML, CSS, Java, JavaScript, SQL, Python, and Racket. I am part of the MoCo Soil and Water Conservation District Team for Serve IT, otherwise known as MCSWCD. I look forward to learning how to work as part of a team and how to develop a web application. In the future, I’d like to use my experience in coding and programming to design websites, apps, and possibly video games.
