Andrew Sutton

I’m Andrew Sutton and I’m working as a team lead on the orange county health and wellness network as a subteam of maintenance. This semester started out extraordinarily slow with our clients rarely responding to us and essentially having to tell our interns to hold on tight until work started flowing in. However, once the clients got everything together that they needed to then the pace picked up ten fold. Decisions were made and we started to redo our whole websites design and then switched from using CiviCRM to building our own database with SQL and PHP. We have essentially finished everything design related and now all we have left is to finish up the backend issues to get the directory working the way that we need it to. That all depends on if we can finish the php in time, however.

Deepthi Devireddy

My name is Deepthi Devireddy, and I am a senior studying Informatics with a cognate in pre-health professions. This spring marks my 4th semester being a part of the ServeIT clinic, and my 2nd semester as the team lead for the External Relations team.

Over my time spent in the clinic, I’ve learned many professional, technical and social skills that have made me the person I am today and set me up for success in the workplace. This particular semester has been one of the best! It was my first time being the lead on a client operation, and I feel great about what we have accomplished. We worked with Bloomington Chamber Singers to help them with their project management, social media and organizational needs. This involved facilitating social media trainings, creating materials to help inform and train the board, restructuring their google drive, and direct service volunteering. It was an incredible experience!

Being a part of ServeIT made me realize how malleable your experiences can be, and how they can change and improve based on your attitude, efforts and seriousness. I realized this through the exploration of team efficiency and motivation among interns on my team as effort was put into building interpersonal relationships on the team. I saw my team reach new levels of success and productivity, and I got to spread the team building strategies I used to the entire clinic. This was a huge accomplishment for me, and through this experience, I’ve learnt lessons I will never forget!

The ServeIT clinic has been an amazing opportunity for me to gain real world experiences, build lasting relationships, learn valuable technical skills, improve my professional adeptness, make an impact on my community and become a true leader.

Madeline Burlage-Haynes

Hello there! My name is Madeline Burlage-Haynes, and I’m a senior at Indiana University majoring in Informatics with minors in Business and Human-Centered Computing. This is my third semester with the clinic and my second semester on the External Relations team as a Capstone student. A lot has happened this past semester and accordingly, I have accomplished a wide array of tasks with the clinic. As a Capstone student for ER, I have been involved with advertising the clinic for new applications, updating blog posts/bios and pictures on the old ServeIT website using WordPress, worked/volunteered with our client, Bloomington Chamber Singers, and much more. It has brought me so much joy to be a member of my team this semester, get closer and work hard with an amazing bunch of individuals, and help make an impact on a great organization. Being a member of ServeIT and TeachIT has helped me gain so much leadership, professional, and technical skill for the future and I am excited to be able to use it in the real-world very soon.

Alyssa Bae

Hello, my name is Alyssa Bae. I am currently a junior and majoring in informatics with business cognate and minor. This is my second semester in serve IT and I am currently working in Teach IT team. From working in Teach IT, I learned that there are a lot of people who are really passionate about learning how to use technology and how it can benefit them. From overall experience, the most memorable moment is when I was helping an old man with excel. I do not have a lot of knowledge with excel. I was able to research and study at the same time when I was helping the client with excel. I was able to refresh everything that I learned in K201. I felt extremely helpful when I helped the client to achieve his goal in excel. It was little disappointed that we did not have many people coming in for the Teach IT session. I hope, for next semester, we get more Teach IT clients. The internship itself was such a great opportunity for me to learn about how to work and communicate with people through technology. I am looking forward to work as Teach IT intern next semester.

Tanner Matlock

Hi, my name is Tanner Matlock. I am junior informatics major with a business cognate and a security minor. This is my first semester being a part of TeachIT! I have worked with both the SICE Outreach and Ellettsville Boys and Girls club. It was a lot of fun to work with the kids at Ellettsville, and it was awesome to see them become more and more familiar with technology. Working with Outreach and helping Michele this semester was incredibly fulfilling, knowing the things we were preparing were going to help teachers in Indiana further teach computer science. This first semester was amazing and I can not wait for next year to get back and start again!

Maritza Castaneda

Hello! My name is Maritza Castaneda and I am currently a senior this year in the School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering. I am majoring in Informatics with minors in Human-Centered Computing and Public and Environmental Affairs. I am really passionate about front-end development as well as focusing on the usability of technology and applications.

This is my fourth and final semester being involved in the Serve IT Clinic. I am currently the team lead for the Orange County Recycling Co-Op (OCRC) team in the clinic. The OCRC team is a client team working to design and develop a functional and easy-to-use website for the Orange County Recycling Co-Op organization, which is located in Paoli, Indiana.

At this point in the semester, our team has gone through several design iterations after meeting with our client and the Serve IT Design and User Testing team. Since our prototype has been finalized, we have been working on developing the website and making it responsive on multiple device screens. Within our site, we have also added a Volunteer form and a Membership form for interested candidates looking to get involved with the organization. We hope our website will help to get the word out about Orange County Community Co-Op and its mission to promote the value of recycling.

Emma Flohr

Hello, I am Emma Flohr. I’m a junior studying Informatics with a cognate in Media and a minor in Human-Computer Interaction Design. This is my first semester with Serve IT, and I’ve loved every minute of it. I’m currently on the client-facing team for Dimension Mill. The Mill is Bloomington’s center of gravity for innovators, remote workers, entrepreneurs, and creators. It completely renovated a 103-year-old building from the Showers Brothers Furniture Company and transformed it into a 19,000 square-foot coworking and incubator space, home to 15 companies and 150 members. We are currently helping to make changes to its website, as well as with its overall online presence. We have also created logos for its funding campaign, and worked on its web app. With Serve IT I have been exposed to working with a multifaceted team of students, as well as directly with our client, and been able to put my skills to good use.

In my spare time, I am a shift manager at Baked! of Bloomington, as well as work for IU’s University Information Technology Services. I know my experience with Serve IT has built a great foundation of working in the technology field and will prepare me for anything the future can throw at me.

Ben Gaither

My name is Ben Gaither and I am a junior at Indiana University pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in informatics with a minor in business. This is my first semester with Serve IT and I am part of the Teach IT team where we volunteer at local after-school clubs to teach the children basics of computer science and computer skills. It is always great to see the kids enjoying the lesson plans that we have created for them and it is very rewarding when they actually take away useful skills as well. Not only this, but Teach IT has allowed me to meet some great people on the teams that I work with. I see my team members multiple times a week and we all have fun with what we do while also sharing a common goal which is a great experience that I will be able to build upon for my future. Serve IT is a great place to get real world experience, meet people from all different backgrounds, and fell like you are a part of something that can make an impact. For all these reasons I am very glad to be a part of Serve IT and the Teach IT division of it.
