Hi, my name is Lucy Reger and I am a junior majoring in Informatics. My cognate and minors are telecommunication and human-centered computing. I am a part of the Teach IT team within Serve IT. I spend most of my time making lesson plans for children at Boys and Girls Clubs, and my favorite part, going to Lincoln Street Boys and Girls Club or Crestmont Boys and Girls Club and teaching kids about technology like Ciphers, coding games, and hardware. It has been a great experience to work with others in a team setting and also to work with kids from 3rd grade to high school level. I plan to continue my work with Serve IT in the future to gain professional skills and to give back to the Bloomington community.
My name is Baylie Burd and I am a Junior in the School of Informatics. I am also minoring in Business and Security. This is my first semester being involved with ServeIT and I love it! I am specifically involved with TeachIT and love going out and interacting with the kids at the different Boys and Girls Clubs. While this gives the kids a lot of experience with new application it also allows for me to expand my knowledge from a teaching aspect. I can’t wait to continue to work with these kids throughout the remainder of the semester and watch their minds grow!
This semester as a Serve IT External Relations intern, I’ve been excited about the many ways in which I can utilize the skills I’ve learned over the years. More specifically, I have had the pleasure of working more with the media side of our outreach by putting to use my experience behind the camera to promote our clinic and our work. Mostly, I have been in charge of the promotional video for the clinic as it is my main project for the semester. I have also gotten a chance to hold a free headshot event for the clinic and am in the process of sending out photos to those who came. Besides these, I am hopeful that I can guide our newer interns as far as our outreach through the newsletter, social media accounts, and more. Overall, I look forward to the rest of the semester; we have a very dedicated team with the most forward-looking and motivated interns, making the experience that much more fulfilling.
Hello everyone, my name is Bhasi Mehta and I am on the Training team for ServeIT. I am majoring in informatics with a cognate in business. I am also minoring in business and computer science. This is my first semester doing ServeIT and I am enjoying the experience of being a part of this organization. We have just recently finished creating a GitHub Knowledge Base manual that will give basic training to everyone in ServeIT on how to use GitHub. This manual includes an explanation on the purpose of using GitHub, provides basic Git vocabulary and useful Git commands, and gives an overall tutorial on Git. The next project that I will be working on is creating a manual for how to use JIRA. I am currently in the research phase but I can’t wait to finish this so the team leads and members next year will have a better understanding on JIRA and agile.
Hi everyone! My name is Sarah Burns and I am a freshman, an informatics major and this is my first semester as an intern for ServeIT. I am a member of the Design and User Testing team. Throughout the semester I have been paired with the MCCSC client facing team to create a design for the interface of a database that team has been creating for MCCSC. Currently I am working on designing Hi-Fidelity prototypes for their product using Photoshop and InDesign. Working for ServeIT has given me such an amazing background in design and user testing as well as experience in a practical and professional situation. I am so happy I was chosen to join this team and I plan to continue with this program next semester and am very excited to see what is yet to come!
My Name is Tyler Mehay and I am a junior studying computer science with a minor in mathematics. This is my second semester in ServeIT. I spent my first semester as a developer for the Boy & Girls Ladies Auxiliary Club and this semester I will be working with the training team. I am currently working with my team to publish training materials for the clinic to use as well as create presentations to further the clinics knowledge on relevant material that they will come across when working on projects.
My name is Thomas LeVine. I am a Junior at Indiana University majoring in Informatics with a focus in Computer Science. This is my first semester working in the Serve IT program where I have had the opportunity to work for Justice Unlocked. As a member of the development team, I am helping to redesign and develop Justice Unlocked’s website using WordPress. I have had prior experience with web design but this is my first time using WordPress. I plan on working with Serve IT again next semester and am excited to see what is to come!
Coming into my second semester in Serve IT, I felt a little intimidated working on a new team with the City of Bloomington but felt right in place with my position on the team. First we worked on a project to improve the website for the City of Bloomington and worked on user research by conducting ethnographic interviews within Bloomington. Then we moved forward to a new project that we are currently working on. This project is based around a web-based application where users can take self-guided tours of landmarks throughout Bloomington. With the talented people on our team, we have made substantial steps toward design and have made great progress. I have learned a tremendous amount and have been able to really work on my soft skills as well as my technical skills. Working on this team has allowed me to really apply the ideas and concepts directly from the courses at Indiana University and have been able to gain invaluable experience. I am excited to start development for this project and can’t wait to see what the rest of the semester holds for us.
